Bank levies (see wage garnishments described above) also arise from lawsuits that come from debt from years ago, but levies are different than garnishments because there is no prior notice given to the debtor that the bank is about to levy the debtor’s bank account. With a bank levy, the Creditor serves the Bank with a Court Order demanding that the Bank surrender all the debtor’s money over to the Creditor. Afterwards, the Bank sends the debtor a letter advising that all their money was levied.
